Hiatus

It has been a while since my previous post. I'm busy working on my personal website. Hopefully the site will be up soon. I'll make another post about my site after a few days.

I understand that most readers will be lazy to check my blog again, if I don't post anything for so many days. Do you agree? I'm also one of those avid blog readers. I'll check every blog in my blogroll almost everyday. I'll be glad if I read some interesting stuff every time I visit a blog.

Here, I would like to provide an option for my readers (if there is). I'll be glad to send emails whenever I update my blog. If you are interested to be in the list, just drop me an email, with your email address. I do hope that this would help save your time.

Avoid "Click Here" Links

I know it's normal for publishers to use "click here" when they are creating links. I'm also one of them who always do this. Normally, I would publish my links this way:

To read more about why "click here" links are bad, click here.

But, after I've read about why "click here" is a bad linking practice, you can see that I'm using a different way of linking.

As another option, you may want use:

Blogging Scripts

After few months of blogging, I find that there are quite a number of limitations when I'm with Blogger. Firstly, modifications to the template are restricted. I'm not allowed to do any php scriptings. The blog itself is unable to automatically send pings to other sites, besides the default site. The list goes on.

Therefore, I spent some time researching on some blogging scripts. Here's a list of open source blogging scripts that I found.

b2evolution
bBlog
BLOG:CMS
boastMachine
FireBlog
Nucleus CMS
pLog
Serendipity
Simplog
Textpattern
WordPress

There are so many of them. As a newcomer in this field, I really can't make up my mind on which to use. I've seen some of my friends using WordPress and they are quite comfortable with it. I would appreciate if any of you who have use any of the scripts, would share your experience with me. Besides those scripts, I've seen some bloggers programmed the script themselves for their own convenience. What do you think?

Help Google Crawl Your Site Better

Google has introduced a new service, Google Sitemaps, for website publishers or webmasters to inform Google about their sites. The service, which is still in BETA, will help Google search engine to crawl pages that are hardly accessible thru links. If you do not know about this, all pages of your site are actually crawled and cached by a search engine "spider" through links in your site.

To use this service, you will have to create a sitemap in XML format. You can create it with a sitemap generator (runs on Python), or possibly write a text file with URLs on your own. After you have created the sitemap (an XML file), you will need to upload the file to your site before you can submit its link to Google thru this page. They also accept syndication feeds such as RSS and Atom. A more comprehensive guide is made available by Google at this location.

In addition to that, there's a sitemap services for mobile devices. Read more about it here.
